NATS Altitude 34 - Beyond the beaches and the amazing aviation innovations behind D-Day
Просмотров 35914 дней назад
The 6th June 2024 will mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day - the Allied invasion of Western Europe during the Second World War and one of the most pivotal days in human history. Most people will be familiar with the sight of the landings in Normandy, but fewer know the story beyond the beaches. D-Day itself saw an incredible 14,674 flights, all handled with nothing more than flare guns and signa...

NATS Altitude 30: Winter Operations: Finnish Snow-how
Просмотров 3223 месяца назад
Ice, snow, howling winds and temperatures as low as minus 30.C are hardly ideal conditions to be running an international airport, but that’s the reality for the team at Rovaniemi, Finland’s second busiest airport. In beautiful Lapland, sitting on the edge of the Arctic Circle, the near constant need to clear runways and de-ice aircraft should conspire against delivering a smooth operation, but...
NATS Altitude - Episode 29 - The Human Factor
Просмотров 9084 месяца назад
Human Factors is the understanding of ‘the human in the loop’. It’s about how people behave and interact both with technology and each other, and it’s something that has become fundamental to safety across aviation and a host of other industries. But what really is Human Factors? Where did it come from and why is it become so integral? In this month’s Altitude, we’ll be digging into the history...
Storm Isha - over 100 go-arounds
Просмотров 6534 месяца назад
Amazing work by flight crews, controllers and everyone else coping with the impact of Storm Isha yesterday. There were more than 100 go-arounds at airports across the country and we still don’t have a total on the number of diversions. It’s very rare for a storm to blanket the whole of the UK and Ireland and rarer still for it to deliver the strength of winds that it did.
NATS Altitude - Episode 28 - Concorde: 20 years on
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.6 месяцев назад

Flying faster than the rotation of the earth, it could cross the Atlantic in just two and a half hours, with passengers arriving at JFK before they left Heathrow. Now, 20 years after its final ever flight from Heathrow to Filton on 26 November 2003, we look back at the history of one of aviation’s great engine...

But it is also in need of a radical transformation. In this episode of Altitude, we examine why airspace modern...

On my balcony, I watch planes land and take off at London City. Today is a clear day and planes are landing but on final approach, I see a Swiss Air abort landing and bank sharp right. They go in circles for nearly an hour and then landing at Stanstead. Did Swiss Air have technical issue "communicating" with this digital tower? Other planes continued to land and takeoff okay. Interesting screen saves on the FlightAware app.

Ive never understood group discussions as part of recruitment. Its not working as a team its just a opportunity for the extroverts to shine.

Hey, just messaging because I myself am definitely an introvert. I've had to do 'group discussions' twice recently, once for BA and also for NATs Stage 3. Both times are nerve wracking but from the feedback I received on both, it's mainly about just showing you can be 'extroverted' enough to actually get your points across and work in a team, and equally be as good (if not better) a listener as well as a talker.

Glad to see that Simon Ritterband, the insurer, acknowledges and supports the existence of the Hobbyist drone community, and indeed says that's how he got into the Drone biz in the first place. I hope NATS continues to embrace the Hobbyist as an important entry point and educational community as the commercial possibilities mature.

why does Kim have to make it political? why is it bad if the organisation is dominated by white men? its a white country and most women are building family's and don't want careers. its interesting her motivation to get rid of most of the men and make them the minority. what's your fundamental problem with white men being the majority in your industry? genuinely just curious. because it seems abit like discrimination to me but who knows . . .

Don't call it "anniversary." Since I got married, I haven't called a bad incident "anniversary." I call it "murder-versary." I know someone who died there. I named my still fledgling business after him. I was in the air when they shut down every airplane in the sky. I was angry that they said, "America is under an air assault and you need to land right away or the military will be forced to take action." It meant we'd be shot out of the sky. For some reason, our pilot was angry and insisted they tell him what the hell's going on. I thought I was having a paralysis dream-while-awake. I was hoping a crash landing would be the worst thing that happened to me, but then I found out a special person, who really was a GOOD person, had died because he was on floor 102 of Tower 1. They seem to like to tell us now that he never had any chance of making it out based on where he was located when it happened." His mom refused to believe it. IDK how she didn't know right away - I did when my child died - but she insisted he was out on a business run since that's what he did most days. How could she know every one of them was at an early meeting. He was never poisoned by greed but even monstrous greed carries no death sentence - especially since nobody seems to believe the living defendants at Gitmo, who paid for wholesale slaughter, don't deserve the death sentence. They get to live while he's still dead. That's what everyone calls "a civilized response."
